Energy Matrix Group adopts industry-leading contract governance platform, partners with Gatekeeper
September 2026
[PERTH, Western Australia] Energy Matrix Group (EMG) has implemented a new contract lifecycle management platform in partnership with Gatekeeper, adopting an approach increasingly used by leading energy and infrastructure companies to manage complex, fast-growing portfolios.
The initiative reflects a broader shift across the energy sector toward more robust, technology-enabled contract governance, as EMG’s portfolio expands across wholesale and retail gas trading and advisory services.
EMG ran an extensive market review before selecting Gatekeeper, drawn to its contract lifecycle management platform, integrated credit and cyber onboarding tools, and its willingness to configure the system around EMG’s existing sign-off structure rather than impose a generic process.
EMG CEO Allan McDougall said the partnership delivered more than an updated system, with more than 300 customers and suppliers onboarded and more than 900 contracts managed.
“Gatekeeper doesn’t just give us a system, it helped us build the right platform for our maturing business,” Mr McDougall said.
“What set Gatekeeper apart was its willingness to collaborate with EMG to configure the platform around how we actually work and what we need for future growth.”
Since going live, EMG has established a single searchable source of truth for its contracts and third parties, automated milestone alerts, and a documented, auditable approvals chain – embedding institutional knowledge in the system rather than relying on individuals.
For EMG’s customers and counterparties, the upgrade brings added assurance. Commitments are tracked, obligations are met and renewal windows are never missed, reinforcing EMG’s standing as a reliable long-term partner as it expands into new markets.
EMG General Counsel Steve Bird said the platform had transformed the company’s visibility over its obligations to hundreds of customers as the number of contracts held by the Company is expected to increase by 50% in the 2026 calendar year.
“Businesses that manage risk well are the ones that use technology to make them more efficient, that focus on the governance fundamentals without getting overloaded with process,” Mr Bird said.
“Our partnership with Gatekeeper means we now have complete visibility over our contractual obligations and milestones, and an approvals process that is efficient for our business.”
For a business managing a significant share of Western Australia’s domestic gas market and expanding nationally, EMG says robust contract governance is core infrastructure.
“We want to continue reflecting the standard increasingly expected of leading energy companies as the sector faces greater scrutiny and complexity,” Mr Bird said.
